Don't break the bank

Did you know that, as prices continue to rise, a family of four taking a two-week break will very likely spend around £4792 on their annual holiday. So it’s hardly surprising that there’s been a slight drop in the number of UK holidays recently, although the average person has still managed 3.9 holidays over the last 12 months!

Kent motorhome company Choose Leisure has surveyed how attitudes to holidaymaking are changing and how we are looking to save money on breaks. Choosing cheaper accommodation was the most popular way to cut back, with more than 1 in 5 participants opting for that solution. This was closely followed by spending less on eating out and looking for more ‘free’ things to do (both 19 per cent). Least popular (probably for obvious reasons!) were staying with friends or relatives and visiting fewer attractions.
Choose Leisure has come up with some useful ways to save money when setting up your trip.
• Instead of hotels, consider vacation rentals such as air b and b and b or motorhomes for more space and a kitchen.
• Shift check-in dates away from weekends.
• Hotel rewards programs offer discounts and free stays through collecting points.
• Some travel credit cards provide cashback and travel insurance.
• Frequent flyer miles can also lower flight costs.
• Book stays with free breakfast or a kitchen to save on eating eating out.
• Skip taxis and rentals: many UK cities offer affordable public transport. London offers unlimited travel options on buses, for instance.
