Some hate it hot
Published
It’s that time of year when hot overnight temperatures can make it hard for all of us – children and parents alike – to get a good night’s sleep! Chris Michael, chair of leading UK air treatment brand Meaco shares expert tips for staying cool and sleeping better in the warmer weather.

Trap the cool early
Get ahead of the heat. Open windows early morning and late evening to let cooler air in. Keep blinds and curtains drawn during the day to block the sun and stop your room from turning into a sauna. This is especially important in high-rise flats when the combination of a warm day and rising heat can make conditions unbearable.
Keep bedding light
With the first warm weather, many people are still sleeping under heavy winter duvets. Swap to a lighter tog duvet better suited to warmer nights to avoid overheating. At the same time, switch to lightweight, breathable cotton sheets made from natural fibres that let your skin stay cool and comfortable through the night.
Stay hydrated
Drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Being even slightly dehydrated can make you feel hotter and more uncomfortable at night. Keep a glass of water by the bed just in case.
Choose a fan that works smarter, not harder
Not all fans are the same. Look for one that moves more air with less noise and lower energy use.
Personalise your breeze
Choose a fan that gives you control over the way air is delivered to you. For instance, a narrow setting works well when sharing a bed, medium when you are spending time with friends or family in the living room, or wide when the kitchen fills up with guests.
Sleep sustainably
Running a fan all night can push up your bills and add to your carbon footprint. Meaco’s eco mode on the Sefte® fans adjusts the speed based on the room’s temperature, saving energy automatically — good for your wallet and for the planet.
The MeacoFan Sefte® range is available from Meaco, Amazon, John Lewis and Costco.
