Holiday escape

Would you consider taking your child out of school to go on holiday, even though it’s currently banned unless there are exceptional circumstances? If so, you’re in good company. A new survey from Park Christmas Savings suggests that half of British families are prepared to take their kids out of school in order the secure a more affordable holiday. In fact, 1 in 3 parents in the survey even confessed that they’ve told a white lie to do so.

The survey follows a petition to allow families to take their children out of school for up to 10 days fine-free.The petition reached 187,000 and is up for debate in parliament. Package holiday prices can increase by an average of 18 per cent during school holidays, with some destinations seeing price hikes of up to 28 per cent per person. Families may be paying twice and in some case three times the cost of a break by booking within official school holiday time.
Over 4000 UK families took part in the summer savings poll which is part of family budgeting specialists Park’s annual summer campaign to encourage early bird saving for Christmas. One in three families said they think childcare should be free in the summer holidays to help take the burden off families with working parents. Those who can’t afford a foreign holiday are opting for DIY breaks and ‘staycations’ instead.
