Cambridge Festival Family Weekend
Published
This March, families can enjoy a brilliant day out – or make a memorable weekend of it – as the University of Cambridge throws open its doors for the vibrant and much-loved Cambridge Festival Family Weekend, where visitors can dive into a whirlwind of ideas, imagination and hands-on fun for children of all ages.
On 28–29 March 2026, the University of Cambridge will transform the city into a giant playground of ideas for the Cambridge Festival 'Family Weekend' - a free, two-day celebration designed to give families a brilliant day out (or a weekend away) packed with hands-on discovery.
Part of the annual Cambridge Festival, the programme features hundreds of interactive and immersive events where children can build planets, handle real archaeological artefacts, explore carnivorous plants, tackle 'impossible' questions and even take part in movement-based science workshops.
With venues across the city opening their doors, it’s an accessible, high-energy way for families to experience world-leading research - far beyond the lab.
All events are free, with a mix of drop-in activities and bookable sessions. Full details can be found at festival.cam.ac.uk
The Cambridge Festival runs from 16 March to 2 April 2026.
The Cambridge Festival is the University of Cambridge’s annual celebration of ideas, discovery and debate, opening up world-leading research to everyone. This year features over 350 mostly free events across four themes – Society, Health, Environment and Discovery – inviting audiences to explore global challenges, breakthrough innovations and ideas shaping our future.
