Holiday haunts 2027

Family travellers planning for their 2027 getaway may want to look beyond the usual favourites, as a new study has revealed 10 countries families should have on their radar next year.

Albania takes the number one spot ahead of family-holiday favourites Italy, Spain and Greece, while Portugal rounds out the top five.

UK travel demand remains strong, with 142 million passengers travelling through UK airports during the first half of 2026. And the appetite for international travel shows little sign of slowing. Worldwide searches for holidays abroad 2027 have increased by 175 per cent according to Google trends data, suggesting families are actively looking ahead to next summer.

To identify the destinations with the greatest appeal for 2027, Bailey Robinson has ranked 10 countries, revealing a clear winner – and a strong preference for Europe.

1 Albania

Albania offers a combination that is increasingly attractive: dramatic Mediterranean scenery, historic towns, beaches and straightforward access from the UK and wider Europe.

Tirana, the country's lively capital, provides a natural starting point for exploring Albania, while destinations such as Sarandë and the Albanian Riviera offer a different side of the country, with turquoise waters and coastal landscapes.

2 Italy

Italy offers a huge breadth of experiences, from the historic streets of Rome and canals of Venice to the landscapes of Tuscany, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast.

Its position suggests that travellers are not necessarily moving away from established favourites – instead, they may be looking for new ways to experience them.

3. Spain

From the architecture and food scene of Barcelona to the historic streets of Seville, the beaches of the Balearics and the Canary Islands, Spain offers a breadth of destinations that can appeal to various types of travellers.

4. Greece

The country's appeal stretches far beyond its famous islands. Athens offers ancient history alongside a growing food and cultural scene, while destinations such as Santorini, Crete, Corfu and Rhodes provide the classic Mediterranean escape.

5. Portugal

Lisbon remains an obvious city-break choice, while Porto, the Algarve, Madeira and the Douro Valley offer opportunities to explore beyond the capital.

Its fifth-place position reinforces one of the clearest findings from the ranking: for 2027, travellers do not necessarily need to travel far to find destinations combining scenery, culture, food and ease of access.

The next five hotspots for 2027 are Egypt, Vietnam, Japan, France and Ireland.

The ranking points to a split in 2027 travel demand: European destinations perform strongly because they combine scenery, culture and accessibility, while Egypt, Vietnam and Japan show that families will still consider longer journeys when the destination offers sufficient cultural, natural, or experiential appeal.
