New recipes for little ones

As we move into 2023, it’s a great time to try out some fun and exciting recipes for all the family!

Organix has some fresh and healthy recipe ideas for little ones to try for the year ahead.

Excite your little one’s taste buds with a warming and soothing Baby Lentil Soup. This recipe is suitable for 12+ months.

BABY LENTIL SOUP

Prep: 10-30 mins

Cooks in: 10-30 mins

Serves: 4

Ingredients

1 tbsp. of olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 medium onion (diced)
2 medium carrots (grated)
1 tsp. of ground cumin
150g dried red lentils (soaked 1 hour before / or overnight)
1 litre of vegetable stock
100ml milk (or dairy free plant-based alternative)

Method

1. Soak lentils in advance for this baby lentil recipe. In a large pan heat the oil over a medium heat, add diced onions and crushed garlic once lightly golden stir in cumin.

2. Stir in the grated carrots, lentils, sweet potatoes, vegetable stock and milk. Then bring to the boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 20-30 minutes until the lentils and sweet potatoes are cooked and soft.

3. Once slightly cooled, puree with a hand blender or food processor until smooth consistency. Enjoy this baby lentil recipe!

Organix’s Baby Salmon Fishcakes are a great way to try this fresh and healthy food, whilst incorporating lots of different vegetables such as, courgette, carrot, sweetcorn, peas, spring onion into their meal too. This recipe is suitable for 12+ months.

BABY SALMON FISH CAKES

Prep: 10-30 mins

Cooks in: 10-30 mins

Serves: 12 mini fishcakes or 6 large

Ingredients

2 fresh Salmon fillets boned & skinned
2 sweet potatoes peeled & cubed
100ml milk
50g oats
40g grated cheddar cheese (optional)
Your choice of veggies (courgette, carrot, sweetcorn, peas, spring onion or parsley all work well!)

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200c/180c fan or gas mark 6. Place the potatoes in a saucepan, cover with cold water and bring to boil, then reduce heat and cook for 8-10 minutes. Meanwhile place the fresh salmon in a separate large saucepan, add milk, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.

2. Once the potatoes are tender remove from heat, drain, mash, and set aside. Remove the salmon, add to a separate bowl and flake using a fork, then add the sweet mashed potatoes and top with the milk from the salmon and mix well.

3. Add your chosen veggies, along with oats and grated cheese. Combine well.

4. Using your hands, form the mixture into 12 small or 6 large fishcakes. Add to a lined baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, lightly fry for 3-4 minutes each side until golden.

5. Carefully remove baby fish cakes from the oven and once cooled serve.

Or why not have a go at making some Baby Muffin Flower Pizzas? A super quick and easy meal, it allows your little ones to explore different colours and textures decorating their masterpiece pizzas! This recipe is suitable for 12+ months.

BABY MUFFIN FLOWER PIZZAS

Prep: 10-30 mins
Cooks in: Under 10 mins
Serves: 2 pizzas or 8 finger slices

Ingredients

2 English muffins halved
4 tbsp pizza/tomato sauce
20g grated cheddar cheese

Optional Toppings:
Cherry tomatoes
Sweetcorn
Bell peppers

Method

1. Preheat the grill. Slice the muffins in half.

2. Spread 1 tbsp of pizza sauce evenly across each muffin and sprinkle with cheese.

3. Add a handful of fresh toppings of your choice or create a fun design! We have chosen flowers created with lots of colourful veggies.

4. Carefully transfer the mini pizzas to the grill, and bake for around 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the edges are lightly golden. Remove from oven and once cooled enjoy, or slice into fingers.
